Leaders join forces to improve health care access for military recruiters, families

To ensure the greatest outreach, the military often locates its recruiters and their families close to communities with eligible youth, but far from the peer support and healthcare resources of an installation. To help fill this gap in support, leaders from the Air Force Recruiting Service, Defense Health Agency and TRICARE, the military’s healthcare program, met Jan. 11 to discuss the unique challenges military recruiters face in remote locations, particularly from a healthcare standpoint, and to brainstorm solutions.

First Coast Guardsmen to graduate CRDAMC IPAP program

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – Coast Guardsmen, Lt. Mary Leon, and Lt. j.g. Ethan Etlinger, will be the first to graduate the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Interservice Physician Assistant Program in early February here at Fort Cavazos. The graduates praised the extraordinary dedication of CRDAMC’s leadership, doctors, nurses, and staff for the opportunity and education.

Tripler Blood Donor Center works with Local Units to Help Military Readiness

The Tripler Blood Donor Center is essential to Tripler’s Army Medical Center ability to function as a trauma center. It is important to have blood on hand and in supply for patients undergoing surgeries, cancer treatments, blood disorder treatments, and other traumas. January is National Blood Donor Month. The monthly observance celebrates voluntary blood donors, spreads awareness, and encourages people to donate blood during critical times.

Allergy/Immunology fellows from Walter Reed come out on top in FIT Bowl

The FIT Bowl is one the most anticipated events every year during the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI) Annual Scientific Meeting. During the most recent bowl, which celebrated its 32nd anniversary, fellows from Walter Reed walked away with the first-place trophy in the fast-paced, fun “College Bowl” style game contested before a live, enthusiastic audience. Army Capts. (Drs.) Andrew Weskamp and Jeremy McMurray, from the National Capital Consortium (NCC) Allergy and Immunology Fellowship program, finished first in the competition among fellows-in-training (FIT) held in Anaheim, California on Nov. 11. The NCC includes graduate medical education (GME) programs at Walter Reed, Uniformed Services University, Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and other military health-care training program in the region.
