Pharmacy

Eligibility

The Osan AB Pharmacy provides outpatient services to eligible beneficiaries. All beneficiaries must be validated and registered through the TRICARE Patient Administration office. For non-TRICARE beneficiaries, Other Health Information (OHI) must be provided before prescription services are rendered.

TRICARE Formulary

Osan AB Pharmacy dispenses medications in accordance with TRICARE policies, rules, and quantity limitations. Many Uniform Formulary medications are readily stocked, but availability is not guaranteed. Medications that are out of stock may take from 6 to 8 weeks to arrive, depending on the supply chain.

Prior Authorizations (PA) may be required for some medications. Use the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool to determine if a PA is necessary. Please note: The prescribing provider is responsible for completing and submitting the PA form to Express Scripts. The pharmacy is not notified when the PA has been approved; the provider and/or the patient must follow up with the pharmacy to proceed with processing before the prescription will be ordered and dispensed.

Services

New Prescriptions

All MTF provider and host nation paper prescriptions that have met criteria for acceptance may be processed at Osan AB Pharmacy.

As a reminder, electronic prescriptions require activation and are not automatically processed when received. New prescriptions may be activated in person by checking into the pharmacy (preferred) or calling the pharmacy at 0505-784-2185 and speaking to a pharmacy team member.

Refills

The MHS Genesis Patient Portal is the preferred method for all refill requests.

Alternatively, refills may be requested via the automated phone refill line at 0504-0920-0530. This is a Korean phone number; if you are calling from a DSN phone, you must dial 99 and then enter the full number. If you are dialing from a U.S. or international phone number, you must include the +82 prefix (dialing +82-504-0920-0530, international calling charges may apply). Local Korean cell phones or landlines may dial the number directly as 0504-0920-0530. You must have your prescription refill numbers ready to use the phone system; these are found on the bottom left of your prescription label. Refills requested before 7 a.m. via either method will be ready after 10 a.m. on the same duty day. Refills requested after 7 a.m. will be ready after 10 a.m. on the following duty day.

We encourage patients to be mindful of their refill status to prevent running out of medication at the last minute, especially during base exercise closures, holidays, and MDG Training Days (typically the 3rd Thursday of every month). However, if an urgent refill is needed, please check in in-person at the pharmacy during duty hours. Completion time will vary based on staffing and workload.

Host Nation Prescriptions

Prescriptions obtained off-base on the economy must meet certain requirements before they can be accepted and processed at Osan AB Pharmacy. Prescriptions must be from facilities that are TRICARE-affiliated. Check with the TRICARE office or with the pharmacy to determine if a facility is covered by TRICARE before seeking care.

The following criteria must be met for Korean prescriptions to be filled:
  • Two copies of the prescription must be presented, one in Hangul (Korean) and one in English. Translation services may be available if an English prescription is unable to be procured. Translation requests may take from 24 to 72 hours depending on caseload and medical urgency.
  • Not written for a controlled substance.
  • Not written for non-formulary medications or medications requiring prior authorizations.

Self-Initiated Care Kit Program - “SICK” Over-the-Counter Program and Emergency Contraception

Osan AB Pharmacy offers a limited selection of over-the-counter products for acute and minor ailments for eligible beneficiaries ages 2 and older, who are not pregnant and are not on flying status. Fill out a SICK form located at the pharmacy ticket dispenser detailing symptoms. The pharmacist will prescribe products based on symptoms and individual health considerations. Note that there is a maximum of three (3) products per month per beneficiary, and that this program is not intended to be used on a chronic basis.

Emergency contraception (e.g. Plan B, Ella) is also available. A valid female military ID or DoD beneficiary card must be presented to the pharmacy by the requestor.

Express Scripts Home Delivery

Visit Express Scripts to determine if mail order may be an option for you, and to view the process to set up delivery. Please note controlled substances and refrigerated medications cannot be mailed to Korea.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can my network provider in the states send electronic prescriptions (eRx) to Osan AB Pharmacy?

Osan AB Pharmacy’s eRx address is DOD OSAN KOREA PHARMACY

What is “activation” of a prescription, and how is it different from a refill?

Activation is the initiation of processing of a NEW prescription; a renewal of a prescription is a NEW prescription, even if you have been taking it and there are no changes. As a reminder, electronic Rx (eRx) are not automatically processed when your provider places a prescription order. The patient must initiate processing by checking into the pharmacy or calling the pharmacy to activate the order.

Refills are authorized additional fills by your provider on an existing prescription that has already been filled and activated once. The number of refills and their expiration date are located on the bottom left of the prescription label.

Can I pick up medications for another person?

Yes. You will need the patient’s military ID, or a copy (a photo will suffice) of the front and the back. You will need to verify the patient’s full name and date of birth and know what you are picking up.

Can I drop off old/expired medications for disposal?

Yes. There is a drop box for old, expired, and unused medications in the front and to the right of the pharmacy lobby windows. Please note we cannot accept sharps material; please contact your local waste management for the disposal process.
