The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

Murtha Cancer Center hosts the annual Skin Cancer Summit

The Murtha Cancer Center (MCC) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the only Department of Defense (DOD) Cancer Center of Excellence, hosted its annual Skin Cancer Summit virtually, May 30, 2024. While May is annually observed as National Skin Cancer and Melanoma Awareness Month to highlight the most common cancer in the United States, Walter Reed providers encourage people to protect their skin against the sun's harmful rays daily. This includes using sunscreen and wearing clothing to cover skin exposed to the sun for prolonged periods.

CRDAMC IPAP students complete 100th plus iteration of the course

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center held its graduation for its Interservice Physician Assistant Program and promoted two officer candidates to second lieutenant 7 June. Renowned for its rigorous and highly respected physician assistant program that started in the 1980s, each year, a select group of students, enters the walls of CRDAMC with dreams of becoming exceptional physician assistants, for the 13-month second phase of a 29-month program that begins at Joint Base San Antonio.

Capping off 2024 Research and Innovation Month, Walter Reed’s Department of Research Programs (DRP) recognized award winners for its poster and symposium competitions during a ceremony on May 22. Winners in some of the categories advanced to compete in the 39th Annual Navy-wide Academic Research Competition, held virtually May 17. Walter Reed participants walked away with awards in that competition as well.
