MCAS Cherry Point — Nurses and corpsmen serving aboard Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point spent an August morning refreshing their proficiencies and learning about updates to their career fields.

Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Emmanuella Gbogbo serves as a radiology technologist and the leading petty officer of Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point’s radiology department. A native of Ghana, West Africa, Gbogbo leads a team whose work provides rapid, accurate imaging to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of service members’ injuries to return them to full duty status as quickly as possible.

Navy Medicine Training Support Center (NMTSC), Detachment Camp Lejeune held a ceremony on July 23, 2026, honoring its latest students from the Surgical Technology Program (Phase II). Hospital Corpsman Second Class Emely Betancourt and Hospital Corpsman Second Class Caue Uemura received their certificates of completion, presented by Hospital Corpsmen First Class Christopher River, leading petty officer for NMTSC Detachment Camp Lejeune. Navy Medicine Training Support Center Detachment Camp Lejeune graduates two new surgical technologists

CAMP Lejeune, North Carolina — Navy Medicine has two new surgical technologists in the ranks. Navy Medicine Training Support Center (NMTSC), Detachment Camp Lejeune held a ceremony on July 23, 2026, honoring its latest students from the Surgical Technology Program (Phase II).

Hospital Corpsman Third Class Zalette Mendez serves on the Readiness Team at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point. Mendez was recently awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for her accomplishments while serving at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Unit Meridian, Mississippi. Mendez and her team conduct flight physicals, separations, periodic health assessments, hearing tests, vision exams and other screenings for active-duty service members stationed at MCAS Cherry Point. The tests and evaluations ensure fitness for duty and deployability to training and overseas operations.

Cmdr. Emily Latimer, an emergency clinical nurse specialist at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, was awarded the Defense Health Agency Nursing Award for Evidence-Based Practice. Latimer spearheaded an evidence-based practice project to examine methods for administering blood specifically to pediatric trauma patients.

CAMP LEJEUNE, North Carolina — A United States Navy nurse at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune is being honored for her research and process improvement efforts in pediatric trauma care. Cdr. Emily Latimer, an emergency clinical nurse specialist, was recently awarded the Defense Health Agency Nursing Award for Evidence-Based Practice. Navy physicians, interns graduate from Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune’s residency and fellowship programs

CAMP LEJEUNE, North Carolina — Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune graduates its newest class of family medicine residents, interns, and sports medicine fellows into the military medicine ranks. The Graduate Medical Education Directorate of the medical center (NMCCL) hosted the ceremony on June 30, 2026, at Marston Pavilion on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

Naval Hospital Cherry Point was formally commissioned at 11 a.m. July 1, 1968 with Navy Capt. Anthony Rush serving as its first commander. Fifty-eight years later, Sailors and civilians serving at Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point and Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point honor the legacy of the original staff by continuing their mission of keeping MCAS Cherry Point’s service members medically ready for deployment while caring for their family members.

Cherry Point Clinic Celebrates Fifty-Eight Years of “Keeping the Warfighter in the Fight”

MCAS Cherry Point — Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point celebrated a milestone of its mission as the keystone of medical readiness aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and wellness in the surrounding communities on July 1, 2026.

Hospital Corpsman Second Class (Fleet Marine Force) Lea Graciano learned both motivation and discipline were essential in earning her certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Medical Laboratory Technician. “Showing up every day, putting in the work, allowing myself to fail and learn,” said Graciano, a native of Los Angeles, California, about the key to her success. “Most of all, staying committed to my goal even if it was challenging.” Graciano serves as a Laboratory Medical Technician aboard Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point. Her work there, along with her team, ensures timely and accurate assessments of the health of Marines assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and their suitability for deployment to training and operations.

MCAS Cherry Point — Corpsmen assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point competed to win the annual “Corpsman Cup” on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The competition celebrated the 128th birthday of the Navy Hospital Corps and included events stressing the physical and mental grit of the Sailors while evaluating their skills.

Commander Carlton Bennett III retired Friday, June 12, after more than 38 years of service in the United States Navy, ending his career aboard Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point. Bennett joined the Navy enlisted during a time when nearly every department on a Navy ship had a VCR and used typewriters and ended his career as a Nurse integrating advanced patient-facing health technologies to improve nursing workflow and patient safety. “Success in the Navy is a long game. You must have patience, work hard, and become exceptionally good at your job,” said Bennett during his retirement ceremony. “Then, take advantage of opportunities that allow you to shine.”
