Navy physicians, interns graduate from Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune’s residency and fellowship programs

CAMP LEJEUNE, North Carolina — Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune graduates its newest class of family medicine residents, interns, and sports medicine fellows into the military medicine ranks. The Graduate Medical Education Directorate of the medical center (NMCCL) hosted the ceremony on June 30, 2026, at Marston Pavilion on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

Naval Hospital Cherry Point was formally commissioned at 11 a.m. July 1, 1968 with Navy Capt. Anthony Rush serving as its first commander. Fifty-eight years later, Sailors and civilians serving at Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point and Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point honor the legacy of the original staff by continuing their mission of keeping MCAS Cherry Point’s service members medically ready for deployment while caring for their family members.

Cherry Point Clinic Celebrates Fifty-Eight Years of “Keeping the Warfighter in the Fight”

MCAS Cherry Point — Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point celebrated a milestone of its mission as the keystone of medical readiness aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and wellness in the surrounding communities on July 1, 2026.

Hospital Corpsman Second Class (Fleet Marine Force) Lea Graciano learned both motivation and discipline were essential in earning her certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Medical Laboratory Technician. “Showing up every day, putting in the work, allowing myself to fail and learn,” said Graciano, a native of Los Angeles, California, about the key to her success. “Most of all, staying committed to my goal even if it was challenging.” Graciano serves as a Laboratory Medical Technician aboard Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point. Her work there, along with her team, ensures timely and accurate assessments of the health of Marines assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and their suitability for deployment to training and operations.

NMRTC Cherry Point Corpsmen Compete

MCAS Cherry Point — Corpsmen assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point competed to win the annual “Corpsman Cup” on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The competition celebrated the 128th birthday of the Navy Hospital Corps and included events stressing the physical and mental grit of the Sailors while evaluating their skills.

Commander Carlton Bennett III retired Friday, June 12, after more than 38 years of service in the United States Navy, ending his career aboard Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point. Bennett joined the Navy enlisted during a time when nearly every department on a Navy ship had a VCR and used typewriters and ended his career as a Nurse integrating advanced patient-facing health technologies to improve nursing workflow and patient safety. “Success in the Navy is a long game. You must have patience, work hard, and become exceptionally good at your job,” said Bennett during his retirement ceremony. “Then, take advantage of opportunities that allow you to shine.”

MCAS Cherry Point — Navy Cmdr. Carlton Bennett III served as an enlisted Sailor during a time when nearly every department on a Navy ship had a VCR, typewriters were used to draft official correspondence and paper letters were the only way to send correspondence home to loved ones.

Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune's Simulation Center offers corpsmen across the installation hands-on opportunities to practice life-saving care. Recently, corpsmen completed final testing for the En Route Care course (ERC) which focuses on proper medical care administered during transport, specifically aviation transport. Simulation center provides corpsmen essential transport care training at Camp Lejeune

CAMP LEJEUNE, North Carolina — Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune’s Healthcare Simulation and Bioskills Center hosted the final stage of En Route Care (ERC) training for corpsmen across Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. The ERC program is designed to train hospital corpsmen on medical care provided during transport; the testing on June 6, 2026, integrated high-tech simulators and hands-on training.

Navy Lt. j.g. Nelyavier Meletiche serves as a physician assistant aboard Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Cherry Point. A graduate of the Medical Service Corps Interservice Procurement Program and Madison, Wisconsin, native, he credits his time as an enlisted hospital corpsman and surgical technologist with being able to better care for his patients.
