Walter Reed Champions Holistic Health Care During Cancer Survivorship Day Open House

The atmosphere inside the Murtha Cancer Center (MCC) on Cancer Survivorship Day, June 6, 2024, resembled a reunion filled with cancer survivors, caretakers, and health care professionals all reconnecting and championing the goal of living with passion and purpose. MCC is the only Department of Defense Center of Excellence for cancer, and in 2023 published a groundbreaking, collaborative study indicating that cancer patients treated within the Military Health System (MHS) generally received earlier cancer diagnoses than privately insured or Medicaid patients.

Murtha Cancer Center hosts the annual Skin Cancer Summit

The Murtha Cancer Center (MCC) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the only Department of Defense (DOD) Cancer Center of Excellence, hosted its annual Skin Cancer Summit virtually, May 30, 2024. While May is annually observed as National Skin Cancer and Melanoma Awareness Month to highlight the most common cancer in the United States, Walter Reed providers encourage people to protect their skin against the sun's harmful rays daily. This includes using sunscreen and wearing clothing to cover skin exposed to the sun for prolonged periods.

Making history and honoring heritage – New medical center commander/director hopes to inspire

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – United States Navy Captain Anja Dabelić makes history at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune as the first woman to lead the Medical Center since its establishment as a haven for care some 80 years ago. Dabelić assumed directorship of the facility and command of Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Camp Lejeune on May 21, 2024.
