BAMC provides COVID-19 vaccine program update

Brooke Army Medical Center administered its first Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines to frontline medical professionals Dec. 17 as part of the Department of Defense’s initial vaccine rollout. “I’m ready to eradicate this virus,” said Army Capt. Rebecca Parrish, a COVID-19 intensive care unit nurse, after she received BAMC’s first vaccine.

San Antonio Military Health System Delays Elective Surgeries

In response to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued an executive order for area hospitals to postpone elective surgeries and procedures to reserve capacity for COVID-19 patients from the community. In line with this order and to ensure our healthcare professionals are poised to support an increased need for acute inpatient care, the San Antonio Military Health System has begun temporarily delaying some elective surgical cases, particularly those requiring an overnight stay.

Fort Drum Veterinary Treatment Facility hosts drive-up vaccine clinic

The Fort Drum Veterinary Treatment Facility hosted a drive-up vaccine clinic at their facility on Fort Drum, New York, Dec. 28. The day-long event provided much-needed inoculations and wellness exams while minimizing person-to-person contact. Additionally, no appointments were necessary, allowing the clinic to care for more pets than on a typical day.

Get Your Flu Shot for Free with TRICARE

If you haven’t had your flu shot yet, it’s not too late. Military hospitals and clinics are receiving the remainder of their annual flu vaccines now. If you don’t normally get your care at a military hospital or clinic, remember you can still get your flu shot for free in other ways. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone 6 months of age and older gets a flu vaccine annually.

CRDAMC’s Emergency Operations Center key to success in the COVID-19 pandemic

FORT HOOD, Texas -- The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center’s Emergency Operations Center was established in March 2020 by Col. Richard Malish, CRDAMC commander, in response to the growing needs from the COVID-19 pandemic. The EOC has been in operation every day since overseeing multiple, and sometimes complex, activities to help ensure timely, quality and safe care for Fort Hood’s Soldiers and beneficiaries.
