DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. — The Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (AFMES) at Dover Air Force Base stands out among the Department of War as truly being one-of-one. It is the only place where multiple, very specific missions are conducted. Its missions include the Forensic Toxicology (FORTOX) laboratory, the Armed Forces Repository of Specimen Samples for the Identification of Remains (AFRSSIR), the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDIL), and the Forensic Pathology Investigations (FPI) division.
