The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
Our military hospital remains open and we’re continuing to provide healthcare services. Scheduled appointments and procedures are proceeding as planned, and new appointments continue to be booked. Army Recovery Care Program Soldiers take up ax throwing and archery

Soldier Recovery Units are offering sports that are causing axes and arrows to fly. It’s all part of events and programs that some Soldiers participate in as part of their adaptive reconditioning. Ax throwing is offered by an SRU in Kentucky, while archers are readying their bows at units in Texas and Hawaii. COVID-19 pandemic precautionary measures are practiced at all three locations. For those at the Fort Campbell SRU, ax throwing is a bimonthly event. It started last September at a location that reserved two hours just for them, said Adaptive Reconditioning Support Specialist Ashley Riddick. The first was devoted to practicing proper form and the second was dedicated to a double elimination tournament, Riddick said.

SAMHS Centralizes COVID Screening and Testing at BAMC

To preserve clinic access and maximize resources, the San Antonio Military Health System is centralizing COVID-19 screening and testing to a single location at Brooke Army Medical Center on JBSA-Fort Sam Houston. Effective noon on Friday, February 12, the sites at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center and Randolph Clinic will close after 11 months in operation, and BAMC will become the sole screening and testing location within SAMHS. BAMC’s site, located in the first floor of the parking garage, is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon. As a reminder, the site will be closed Monday, February 15, for the Presidents Day holiday, but will resume normal operations on Tuesday, February 16. We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we continue to modify services based on current conditions. Please continue to do your part to slow the spread of this virus, remember the 3 Ws: wear a face covering, wash your hands or hand sanitize regularly and watch your physical distancing. That is the best way to preserve the health of our patients and staff.

LRMC surpasses 100K COVID-19 tests  

This week, as the largest U.S. military hospital outside the continental United States, LRMC surpassed 100,000 COVID-19 tests with a continued commitment toward diminishing the virus. This is evidenced by ongoing additions to its laboratory arsenal, such as the recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration-authorized Rapid Antigen Tests, or RAT tests. Using a RAT test, patients can read their results directly from the testing card, similar to home pregnancy tests.

Bod Pod walk-ins available at AWC

Starting Feb. 12, the Army Wellness Center is reinstating walk-in hours for the Bod Pod, the Gold Standard of body composition testing, which will be available for walk-in opportunities every Friday morning 7:30-11:30 a.m. (unless otherwise notified of hourly adjustments via the Fort Lee Army Wellness Center Facebook page). All service members, dependents (over 17 y/o), retirees and DOD civilians are welcome to participate.
