59th Medical Wing’s own honored with Aerospace Medical Association fellowship

Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Dr. Paul M. Sherman, was recently honored with a fellowship for his exceptional contributions to aerospace medicine at the 2023 Aerospace Medical Association's 93rd Annual Scientific Meeting. Dr. Sherman, currently serving as the Director of Radiological and Aerospace Medical Research at the 59th Medical Wing Chief Scientist’s Office, Defense Health Agency, Joint Base San Antonio Lackland, Texas, has had a distinguished career. He previously served at the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine and the 711th Human Performance Wing, retiring with the rank of colonel after 27 years of service.

Lyster conducts Safety Stand-Down Day

Lyster Army Health Clinic hosted a Safety Stand-Down Day on October 18. The Lyster staff, along with members of Brown Dental Clinic participated in the event which incorporated training scenarios to positively influence patient care and occupational safety. Through hands-on demonstrations, practical exercises, and targeted training objectives, the staff focused their efforts to strengthen their culture of safety.

Fort Johnson Families gather for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital hosted a Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day observance at the Angel Baby Tree Memorial Oct. 15, at the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Johnson, Louisiana. The Angel Baby Tree was donated in 1994 to the hospital from grieving parents as a constant and living reminder of the estimated one in four individuals and families whose lives are altered by that death of their children during pregnancy, at birth or in infancy.

Airman answers the nursing ‘call’

While there are only few Airmen at Walter Reed in comparison to the number of Sailors and Soldiers at “the President’s Hospital,” the Air Force’s contributions to patient care and accomplishing the many missions at the flagship of military health care, cannot be denied. Such is the case with Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Erin Barger. The senior enlisted leader (SEL) in the Directorate of Nursing Services, Barger is a native of Dexter Missouri and has served in uniform for 23 years.
