Suicide can happen quietly and sometimes it’s the people closest to us who are struggling. A lesson painfully learned throughout my life and career: we are not meant to carry our struggles alone. Losing my brother reminded me that silence can be deadly, and seeking help is not just normal—it’s necessary.

Eagle Scout candidate’s project makes Winn ER visits bearable for children

When her brother got sick as a child, only one thing offered him a small bit of comfort: a small stuffed animal that was there for him through his hospital stay. Today, Life Scout Reis Hill used that memory as the inspiration behind her Better Bears Eagle Scout project, donating more than 100 hand-made bears to Winn Army Community Hospital’s emergency department Sept. 2 to complete one of the final requirements to earn Scouting America’s highest award.

Help Shape Clinical Practice Guidelines in Joint DOD, VA Patient Focus Groups: Hypertension on Sept. 26

The Department of Defense and Veterans Health Administration have partnered together and are inviting patients to share their experiences managing hypertension, or high blood pressure. This initiative is part of a virtual focus group on Friday, Sept. 26 at noon ET. It will help shape clinical practice guidelines for treating hypertension across military and veteran communities.

U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Temme, a helicopter pilot stationed at Fort Belvoir, faced an unexpected and life-altering medical challenge when doctors discovered a large benign tumor in his nasal passage. The growth extended dangerously close to his eye socket and the anterior skull base, threatening his vision and ability to fly.
