First COVID-19 Vaccines at NHCH

NHCH has initially received a limited quantity of COVID-19 vaccines for frontline healthcare personnel and emergency support services. NHCH is following the Department of Defense's (DoD) phased, standardized, and coordinated approach to administering COVID-19 vaccines. The strategy was developed in collaboration with Operation Warp Speed, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the DOD’s COVID Task Force assessment of unique mission requirements.

New, State-of-the-art Cleanslate UV Sanitizer Machine

The Cleanslate UV machine is a new, state-of-the-art sanitation machine recently implemented in Naval Health Clinic Hawaii clinics for use by patients and staff in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The machine is a hospital-grade UV light sanitizer that kills bacteria on surfaces such as cell phones, keys, wallets, and badges in 20 seconds.

DoD’s COVID-19 Vaccine Efforts Explained

Vaccine candidates are being offered through an Emergency Use Authorization by the Food and Drug Administration. Getting the vaccine protects yourself, your family, your community and our nation. The Department of Defense is implementing a standardized and coordinated strategy for prioritizing, distributing, and administering a COVID-19 vaccine(s) through a phased approach to DoD uniformed service members, both the active and Selected Reserve components, including members of the National Guard; dependents; retirees; civilian employees, and selected DoD contract personnel as authorized in accordance with DoD regulation.

Collecting convalescent plasma to knock out COVID-19

 The world is searching for a treatment, a cure and a prevention for COVID-19. One piece of that puzzle may be tapped via the sap of human life – blood. At Madigan Army Medical Center, and 14 other Department of Defense facilities, those who have recovered from COVID-19 can donate the liquid part of their blood – the plasma – in an effort to apply it to use as a treatment for those battling the disease now. On a recent visit to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs Thomas McCaffery made a special stop at the Armed Services Blood Bank Center - Pacific Northwest to talk to the staff about convalescent plasma and the DoD’s effort to collect 10,000 units by Sept. 30.
