Walter Reed Bethesda Observes Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center hosted a solemn candlelight ceremony in observance of Holocaust Days of Remembrance on May 9 in Memorial Auditorium. During the program, Holocaust survivor, World War II veteran and liberator retired U.S. Army Col. Frank Cohn served as guest speaker, sharing his heroic story of humanity, hope and bravery with the Walter Reed community.

Blessing of the Hands kicks off National Nurses Week at Walter Reed

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center kicked off National Nurses Week with its traditional Blessing of the Hands ceremony May 6 at the medical center. National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Nightingale is considered the founder of modern nursing for her advocacy of better sanitation and the use of statistical data to improve the delivery of care. She is also credited with significantly reducing death rates by improving hygiene and living standards while serving as a manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean War, in which she organized care for wounded soldiers.
