Murtha Cancer Center Hosts Cancer Research Showcase

The Murtha Cancer Center (MCC) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center hosted its 2022 Research Showcase virtually June 23. The MCC is the Department of Defense’s only Cancer Center of Excellence. The event highlighted work underway in research, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer by staff affiliated with the MCC Research Program (MCCRP), Uniformed Services University (USU), and other institutes affiliated with the MCC, explained retired Army Col. (Dr.) Craig Shriver, MCC director.

LAHC staff puts fire extinguishers to good use during training event

Though fire extinguishers are required in nearly any building, many people have never used or even held a fire extinguisher. Over the past two months, Lyster Army Health Clinic (LAHC) employees have had an opportunity to practice basic firefighting skills using a fire extinguisher to extinguish a small fire. This hands-on training allowed employees to physically employ the PASS method and refine their skills. With the assistance of the Fort Rucker Fire Department, the training taught employees how to choose the right fire extinguisher for a fire and how to use a fire extinguisher properly.
