A perfect fit: Walter Reed becomes first point-of-care facility to receive FDA clearance for patient-specific implant

In June, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) once again led the way by becoming the nation’s first point-of-care facility to receive premarket clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for a patient-specific implant. Designed by Dr. Peter Liacouras, director of services for Walter Reed’s 3D Medical Applications Center (3D MAC) the pioneering Titanium Cranial Plate (TCP) system reconstructs complex cranial and facial defects resulting from trauma, disease or cancer.

HJF Collaborates with 59MDW/ST and Brooke Army Medical Center to Award 2026 CSION Fellowships

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) for the Advancement of Military Medicine has partnered with the Air Force’s 59th Medical Wing Office of the Chief Scientist, Science & Technology (59MDW/ST) and the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) Department of Clinical Investigation (DCI) to provide gifted funding for the Clinician Scientist Investigator Opportunity Network (CSION) seedling proposal program. This collaboration provides gifted funding to execute Defense Health Agency (DHA) gaps-driven proposals developed by the CSION fellows.

Winn Army Community Hospital conducts change of command ceremony

Leadership of U.S. Army Medical Department Activity–Fort Stewart officially transitioned July 8 as Col. Margaret Berryman relinquished command of Winn Army Community Hospital to Col. Alex Montgomery during a change of command ceremony at Cashe Garden. Brig. Gen. James “Jamie” Burk, commanding general of U.S. Army Medical Readiness Command, East, presided over the ceremony, where the passing of the organization’s colors symbolized the formal transfer of authority and responsibility.

59th Medical Wing Begins New Chapter Under Col. Tracy K. Bozung

U.S. Air Force Col. (Dr.) Tracy K. Bozung assumed command of the 59th Medical Wing during a change of command ceremony at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, July 9, 2026. Presided over by Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Robert K. Bogart, Director of Defense Health Network Central and Commander, Medical Readiness Command Alpha, the ceremony marked the formal transfer of leadership from Brig. Gen. Gwendolyn A. Foster to Bozung. Previously serving as the wing's deputy commander, Bozung now leads the Air Force Medical Service's largest healthcare, medical education and readiness platform, continuing the wing's mission of delivering trusted care, developing ready medics and supporting global operations.
