Dietitians available to assist with diets for those with prediabetes, diabetes

WRNMMC, Bethesda, MD — Individuals diagnosed with diabetes are at greater risk for heart disease, stroke, neuropathy, kidney disease, eye disease, foot problems, gum and dental problems and sexual and bladder issues. There are three laboratory tests used to determine if an individual has prediabetes and four tests used for diabetes: Hemoglobin A1C (percent); Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG); Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT); and Random Plasma Glucose Test. Hemoglobin A1C is a test that determines an individual’s weighted three month blood sugar average (does not need to be a fasting test).
