Ollie Bear, a 12-year-old Labrador retriever, has been a volunteer therapy dog with the American Red Cross Animal Visitation Program since 2016. Ollie is trained to provide comfort and emotional support services to military members, veterans, and families at Tripler Army Medical Center.

Dog Days of Summer: Meet Ruby and John Flanagan

Ruby, a 6-year-old labradoodle, has been a volunteer therapy dog with the American Red Cross Animal Visitation Program since 2019. Ruby is trained to provide comfort and emotional support services to military members, veterans, and families at Tripler Army Medical Center. Ruby started her training with the Alliance of Therapy dogs as a puppy. The classes lasted 24 weeks and the training focused on chasing, jumping, and wrestling. After Ruby turned a year old, she took a socializing class.

Dog Days of Summer: Meet Oscar, Bear, Lorna and Al Hu

Oscar and Bear, two of Tripler Army Medical Center’s dedicated volunteer therapy dogs, have been serving with the American Red Cross Animal Visitation Program since 2016. Lorna and Al Hu, the primary handlers for the Labrador team, tirelessly provide comfort and emotional support services to military members, veterans, and families at the hospital.

Dog Days of Summer: Meet Leia and Janice Draper

Leia, a 3- year-old dachshund mix, has been a volunteer therapy dog with the visitation program through the American Red Cross for six months. She is trained to provide comfort and emotional support services to military members, veterans, and families at Tripler Army Medical Center. Leia's journey began on the Big Island with Pet Partners. After passing an evaluation at The Queen’s Medical Center, she officially became a therapy dog in December 2023, a testament to her hard work and dedication.

Celebrating one year with Nalu: How Tripler’s hospital facility dog makes a difference to patients and staff alike

Nalu, a 2-year-old Labrador retriever, is a full-time Tripler Army Medical Center hospital facility dog. He is present in the Child and Family Behavioral Health Service Clinic, where he works alongside Dr. Kathryn Egan, a child psychiatrist; Trina Jones Artis, a licensed clinical social worker; and Nicole Dorsey, also a licensed clinical social worker.

US Army ROTC nursing cadets join CRDAMC’s team for the summer

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center welcomed five U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps nursing cadets to its halls for a 28-day nursing program, and they got to sit down with the hospital commander, its senior staff members, and the U.S. Army Cadet Command chief nurse July 18.

Take steps to prevent West Nile Virus

The Fort Carson Public Health Team is warning the community to take steps to prevent being infected with West Nile Virus. Public Health says the best defense against contracting West Nile Virus is to avoid being bitten by mosquitos, however, if you think you or a family member have West Nile virus, consult a health care provider immediately.
