FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kansas –
As winter weather arrives in the region, Munson Army Health Center leaders remain committed to protecting the health and safety of patients and staff.
“Snow, ice, and severe cold can create hazardous travel conditions and impact clinic operations. Our goal is to maintain essential patient services whenever it is safe to do so. If weather conditions require delayed opening, modified staffing, or clinic closure, announcements for staff and patients will be made as early as possible,” said Lt. Col Scott Reynoldson, Munson Army Health Center, deputy commander for administration.
He explained that when inclement weather is forecast, Munson's operations division closely monitors local weather advisories, installation operations guidance, and conditions on and off post to determine any impacts to healthcare delivery.
In the event leaders determine a closure is necessary, staff will be notified by their supervisor or Munson’s DoD alert notification system.
Patients with scheduled appointments will typically be contacted by staff to reschedule or convert to a virtual appointment when medically appropriate, but general announcements will also be shared over official command sources including:
• Munson Army Health Center website — https://munson.tricare.mil
• Secure Message through the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal • Munson Army Health Center Facebook page • Official Fort Leavenworth, Combined Arms Command, and unit channels
During inclement weather, Reynoldson recommends patients check an official source before traveling to the health center for appointments, and walk-in services like pharmacy, medical records and immunizations, in the event of closures.
“Winter weather impacts everyone differently. Staying informed and making safe decisions helps keeps our entire community resilient throughout the season,” he said.
In the event winter weather is not expected to impact operations and Munson is open, patients should conduct their own risk assessments based on their location before driving to the health center for care.
“Conditions on post may be clear, but patients who live in outlying communities and must drive some distance from off post may have more hazards to consider. Do not risk driving in unsafe conditions. Your appointment can always be rescheduled,” he said.
Patients may contact Munson’s Call Center weekdays from 7:15 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. at 913 684-6250 or use the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal 24/7 at https://patientportal.mhsgenesis.health.mil. to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
“Munson Army Health Center appreciates your patience and understanding during inclement weather events. Our priority remains delivering safe, reliable care,” said Reynoldson.
