Flu Vaccine Availability on Fort Riley

By Jorge Gomez

Flu season is approaching, and Irwin Army Community Hospital is preparing to support the Fort Riley community with a comprehensive flu vaccine distribution plan. However, the availability of the vaccine this year is dependent on supply delivery, which is not expected to arrive until October or November.

“We understand the importance of timely flu vaccinations,” said 1LT Natalia Sotomayor-Oyola, Fort Riley Public Health Nurse. “But the timeline is determined by when the vaccine actually arrives on post. We want to ensure that everyone—from Soldiers to families to retirees—gets the opportunity to receive the vaccine in an orderly, efficient way.”

The following schedule outlines flu rodeo dates that are tentatively set to begin in October, pending receipt of the vaccine:

October
  • Oct. 4: Retiree Appreciation Day
November
  • Nov. 5: Custer Hill Youth Center (1500–1900)
  • Nov. 12: Colyer Forsyth Center (1500–1900)
  • Nov. 19: Forsyth School Age Center (1500–1900)
December
Caldwell Clinic (0800–1400)
Dec. 2, 4, 9, 11, 16 & 18
Appointments will be required.

For Soldiers
  • IACH Active Duty Soldiers: Scheduled to receive flu vaccines at designated IACH flu rodeos in October.
  • 1st Infantry Division Soldiers: Will be vaccinated through unit-led flu rodeos coordinated separately.

The hospital’s Public Health team is working diligently to finalize event logistics. Updates will be announced as soon as the vaccine shipment is confirmed.
