Fort Knox, Ky. – Ireland Army Health Clinic officials will host a town hall Sept. 18, from 5-7  p.m., at the American Legion in Elizabethtown, Ky., to discuss transitioning retirees’ primary care to the civilian healthcare network. The first of these groups of beneficiaries will receive a letter as soon as Oct. 1.

IRAHC leadership, the Veterans Administration and area network partners will also discuss how to navigate the network, find a doctor and explain the similarities and differences between military and civilian healthcare processes. A question and answer period will be included.

The U.S. Army Health Facilities Planning Agency clinic construction guidelines and Title 10 Public Law only allow room for current active duty Soldiers and their family members. The goal is to focus on military readiness support—readiness is a driving force within the Army.

 Military treatment facilities are able to see retirees on a space available basis, and Ireland has done that for years. But with a smaller clinic and the restrictions placed on its construction, Ireland will not have the space to see retirees when construction is finished. However, retirees will still have access to the pharmacy.
