Revamped Volunteer Services Program Reinvigorates Patient Support at Wilford Hall

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas — After nearly two years of limited activity, the 59th Medical Wing’s Volunteer Services Program has staged a remarkable resurgence, more than doubling its volunteer force and significantly increasing its patient impact across the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. Spearheading the effort is Master Sgt. Anthony Eberly, who assumed leadership of the program in early 2024 following a prolonged vacancy in the coordinator position.

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas — Maj. Nicole Bermudez-Beck and her father, Lt. Col. Luis Bermudez, serve side by side at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, united by both family and military service. Their bond deepened after a humanitarian reassignment brought them together during a time of personal loss, highlighting their shared commitment to care, resilience, and duty.

Air Force Officer Honors Family Legacy Through Medical Service and Leadership

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas — In a small Greek diner on Long Island, New York, U.S. Air Force Maj. Lauren Gabreski remembers the summers spent with her grandfather, Francis "Gabby" Gabreski. While she and her brother played in the booth, their grandfather—better known as one of America’s top fighter aces—shared stories not of aerial combat, but of faith and family. As an Air Force allergist and immunologist, Gabreski carries the values instilled by her grandfather. After completing the Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center on June 30, 2024, she transitioned to the 48th Healthcare Operations Squadron at Royal Air Force Lakenheath in the United Kingdom. Reflecting on her journey before the move, Gabreski shared how her family's military service shaped her path.
