Shining a light on Breast Cancer Awareness

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas — October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual observance focused on raising awareness and encouraging early detection of breast cancer.

Dyan Fredrickson Murray was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2008 and succumbed to the disease March 23, 2009. We tell her story to emphasize the importance of self examination and screening.

FORT POLK, La. — Have you ever had a best friend? My college roommate, Dyan and I became instant best friends when we met in our Witte Hall Dormitory at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in August of 1990.
