The Honorable Dan Driscoll presented coins to several Winn Soldiers and civilians for their role in providing emergency medical care to five injured Soldiers after a shooting incident on the installation Wednesday, Aug. 6.

Educational Outreach Initiative: Inspiring Elementary Students in Infectious Disease Research and Biosafety Practices

Dr. Jesus Silvas from the 59th Medical Wing and Dr. Israel Guerrero from the Texas Biomedical Research Institute visited Mendez Elementary School to introduce 2nd–5th grade students to careers in infectious disease research and biosafety. Through interactive demonstrations, including letting students try on a Biosafety Level 4 Positive Pressure Suit, they showcased safety protocols, high-containment lab work, and the importance of disease prevention. The event inspired curiosity in science, emphasized the role of public health, and highlighted the value of early STEM engagement in developing future leaders.
