American Pharmacists Month: Meet Lance Mizo

Q: Tell us about yourself? 
I have been a pharmacist for 30 years. Worked at Longs Drugs, the VA and now Tripler’s Outpatient Pharmacy.

Q: What inspired you to work in pharmacy?
A stable career.
 
Q: What are some reasons you enjoy being a pharmacist at Tripler? 
  1. Patient care
  2. Decreasing and or preventing medication errors
  3. Less contact with blood/bodily fluids (surgery, etc..)
  4. Diabetes, cholesterol, and blood pressure monitoring with patients (clinical setting)
  5. Become an advocate for pharmacists to prescribe medications
 
Q. What advice would you give to a student interested in becoming a pharmacist?
Volunteer and speak to current pharmacists.
 
Q. How do you inspire future pharmacists?
Grow the profession. Medication therapy management, collaborative agreement with doctors to prescribe medications.  Thirty years ago it was the most trusted profession. Let’s revive it.
Save lives and protect the community with vaccinations.
