The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Newly pinned Air Force major accepts his duty with nose bop, paw salute

Brooke Army Medical Center commissioned a new four-legged staff member to the rank of Air Force major during a ceremony held June 6.

Maj. McAfee, a golden retriever, joins Army Maj. Budd, a Labrador retriever who was commissioned in 2022, as one of BAMC’s two facility dogs.

McAfee is owned and provided to BAMC by America’s VetDogs, an organization which trains and places facility dogs as part of the rehabilitation process in military and VA hospitals.
