TRICARE Families Register for September 23 Autism Care Demonstration Webinar

By TRICARE Communications

Are you new to the Autism Care Demonstration (ACD)? Do you have questions about some of the new changes to the ACD? For existing and new families to the ACD, TRICARE will host a webinar on Sept. 23, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET. The webinar, “What’s New in TRICARE’s Autism Care Demonstration,” will provide an overview of ACD and cover recent and upcoming changes.

In March, TRICARE announced changes to the ACD to help target the individual needs of family members with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Due to the extensive changes, TRICARE has been implementing them in phases. Starting Oct. 1, TRICARE will introduce the remaining changes that will impact families.

“There are a number of key changes starting next month that we’re excited to talk about, like an autism services navigator for families who join the Autism Care Demonstration on or after October 1,” said Dr. Krystyna Bienia, clinical psychologist and ACD clinical lead with the DHA. “A new parent toolkit will also be a resource soon to help improve your family’s access to care and services and understanding of the program.”

The ACD is authorized to provide clinically necessary and appropriate applied behavior analysis, or ABA, services for the diagnosis of ASD. To qualify for the ACD program, your child must be diagnosed with ASD by an approved provider. If you’re an active duty service member, you must also enroll your child in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). In addition, you need to register your child in the Extended Care Health Option (ECHO). Refer to the Extended Care Health Option Fact Sheet for more on how to get started with ECHO and EFMP.

Did you know that ABA services under the ACD are the same for all TRICARE-eligible beneficiaries, regardless of your health plan? Keep in mind, your copayment will vary depending on the health plan that you have.

If you want to learn more about the ACD, don’t miss the Sept. 23 webinar. A Q&A for beneficiaries to ask questions will follow the presentation. To participate in it, you must register. Registration for the webinar is limited. Register today.
