Director’s Update Regarding COVID Vaccine Supply

The health and safety of the staff and beneficiaries of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) remain our top priority, and we are committed to providing the most current information as we fight the global pandemic of COVID-19.

In coordination with the Defense Health Agency and Operation Warp Speed, WRNMMC was proud to become one of the first Military Hospitals to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare workers, healthcare support staff, and patients in long-term care facilities.

Just over a month after providing the first doses, we were able to expand vaccinations to beneficiaries aged 75 years and older. After an extraordinary response from the eligible beneficiary population, we have had to temporarily suspend all Dose 1 vaccinations.

We are currently in a constrained vaccine resupply period and must conserve our remaining on-hand supply to ensure there are adequate doses available to support Dose 2 requirements for individuals who received Dose 1 over the past 3 weeks.

Effective immediately, we will offer only Dose 2 COVID-19 vaccinations to individuals who already received Dose 1 at WRNMMC. We will discontinue all Dose 1 vaccinations until further notice.

Unfortunately, we expect to experience periodic pauses in the resupply of vaccines to Military Hospitals as the supply becomes constrained.

As the vaccine supply is replenished, we will communicate any expansion of our vaccination program using our official social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), external website, secure messaging, Audiocare, internal communications, and external facing signage. We encourage you to remain engaged and informed by following our social media accounts and opting in to available external messaging.

We apologize for any inconvenience this causes and we appreciate your patience and understanding as Walter Reed National Military Medical Center continues to combat the COVID-19 virus.

Director
